UNDERSTANDING MY TEEN BRAIN

Project Understanding My Teen Brain is a program comprised of 20 lessons designed for students in grades 5-10 to learn about the brain and its impact on their daily choices, interactions, and experiences. The first ten lessons need to be taught first to teach the brain basics and provide foundational knowledge. The following ten lessons have been designed to offer additional resources and tools to support teen brain development. Often adolescence can be a confusing and challenging time for both the student and those trying to support the student. It is important to learn how the teenage brain is still "under construction" and may contribute to life's ups and downs of an adolescent. With this knowledge, educators can help students make new and better choices.

These lessons are designed to be implemented by anyone interested in helping adolescents. These lessons are meant to support and empower students with new knowledge and strategies. When facilitating Understanding My Teen Brain, always remember we must work WITH teen brains, not do things TO or FOR our students.

Finally, the overall goal and hope of implementing the Understanding My Teen Brain Program are that by increasing teens' knowledge, awareness, and skills, we will lead to healthier, happier, and wiser learners.
